Stéphanie Herbert Partner

Biography

Whatever the issues at stake, Stéphanie will represent you with tenacity, rigour and determination.

A seasoned family law lawyer and experienced litigator, Stéphanie focuses her practice on complex disputes involving both parenting time and financial issues. She has extensive experience in high-conflict cases and is particularly skilled at quickly mastering complex situations, identifying the issues that truly matter and developing a strategy tailored to each case.

While Stéphanie is an experienced and determined litigator, she firmly believes that the best outcome is not always achieved in a courtroom. Whenever circumstances allow, she is equally committed to resolving disputes through negotiation. A skilled and pragmatic negotiator, she knows when to push, when to compromise and, most importantly, how to structure settlements that protect her clients’ interests and provide lasting solutions. Her approach is always driven by the same objective: achieving the best possible result for her client, whether through a negotiated settlement or litigation.

A significant part of Stéphanie’s practice is devoted to disputes involving parenting time and major decisions concerning children. She regularly acts in particularly contentious cases involving difficult interpersonal dynamics, serious allegations, psychosocial assessments, relocation issues and school choice. She has extensive experience in cases where the parties’ positions are highly polarized and where a rigorous and measured strategy is essential.

Her experience with high-conflict personalities and dynamics is not limited to disputes concerning children. Throughout her career, Stéphanie has represented clients in cases where the level of conflict itself becomes a significant aspect of the litigation. She knows how to navigate these dynamics without losing sight of the determinative legal issues and her clients’ long-term objectives.

Stéphanie also has significant expertise in cases involving complex financial issues. She regularly represents professionals, entrepreneurs and business owners in disputes involving, among other things, income determination, privately held corporations, holding companies, trusts and substantial family wealth.

Her experience allows her to handle cases requiring knowledge that extends beyond the traditional boundaries of family law, particularly in the areas of corporate and tax law. She regularly works with forensic accountants, tax specialists, notaries and other professionals to analyze complex financial structures and develop a comprehensive strategy, both in negotiations and before the courts.

Stéphanie also has particular experience with extraordinary remedies, including Mareva injunctions, both in seeking and defending against such relief.

Before founding Dessureault Herbert, Stéphanie practised for more than ten years at a highly regarded boutique law firm, where she became a partner, as well as at a national law firm that maintained a family law department at the time.

Recognized by her peers, Stéphanie has been named to Best Lawyers in the area of Family Law in both 2025 and 2026.

Stéphanie also practises estate litigation and has delivered numerous conferences and presentations, including to financial institutions and various professional orders.
